The vision and focus to achieve success

Read Now America!

MGT of America, Inc., has been at the forefront of educational improvement by assisting state education agencies around the country in evaluating their federal reading grants.

Changes in the federal legislature brought about by the No Child Left Behind Act have provided new resources to states to ensure that every child can read by the end of third grade. The Reading First Initiative will make a significant federal investment in the form of two competitive grant programs.

The Reading Excellence Act program has awarded over $325 million in grants to help improve the reading skills of prekindergarten through third grade children. This year grants will help 13 additional states use scientifically based reading research to improve reading in more than 400 schools over the next two years. The 13 states that received REA grants in 2001 include: Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

MGT is highly  experienced in conducting objective and practical program evaluations.

The Reading First State Grant Program has made six-year grants to states. The purpose is to allow states to offer competitive subgrants to local communities for administering screening and diagnostic tests to students in grades K-3 who are at risk of reading failure. The grant will provide professional development to teachers to enhance their reading instruction. Similarly, the Early Reading First Program will make six-year competitive grants available to support the early language, literacy, and prereading development of preschoolers--particularly those from low-income families.

Independent evaluations are required components of the Reading Excellent Act (REA) and Reading First (RF) award programs, and MGT has more experience in educational grant and program evaluations than any other consulting firm. Our staff has evaluated reading, literacy, Head Start, Even Start, and technology grants for more than 30 years.
